Digital Nomad Visa

Spain has taken measures to support emerging companies known as Startups by recently publishing the Startup Ecosystem Promotion Law in December, which is now in force. The Digital Nomad Visa is a residence permit that can be extended up to 5 years and will allow non-EU citizens to live and work remotely from Spain (i.e. legally operate as a digital nomad in the country).

What’s important to know?

The person must be turning 18 years old and have not committed crimes anywhere. In addition, it is required that your legal situation is legal and you have not resided in Spain for the last 5 years either. The application for a digital nomad visa for foreign workers requires proof of a university degree, professional training or certificate from a recognized educational institution; in addition to three years of work experience in the related field.

What type of job should you be looking for?

This visa is an excellent option for those people who want to work remotely. This includes teachers, journalists, content creators on social networks, translators and any other work that involves the use of a computer.

How long is the visa valid for?

The visa authorizes its holder to work and reside in Spain for one year. The temporary residence permit in Spain for foreigners includes a visa that will allow its holder to work and live legally in the country for an extended period of time, a total of 5 years. To obtain it, the applicant must be present for at least 183 days within the national territory annually, in addition to possessing the corresponding foreign identity document (NIE).

Is it possible to include my partner or my children?

If a person is accredited to apply for an entry visa, then they can include their spouse and children on the application. The same visa will be granted to the spouse and children as long as it is proven that there is the financial capacity to support them.

What is the estimated time required to complete the visa process? Those interested in obtaining their Spanish residence card, whether they have arrived in the country or do so from their home through the website of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, should take into account an estimate of 20 working days to complete the procedure.
